Privacy Policy
Paprbot turns digital notes into physical ones. This explains what information moves through the app, website, and connected printer — and what choices you have.
On this page
The short version
- No data sales. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Notes go to people. A recipient can read, keep, photograph, or share a printed note. Deleting your data does not reach paper that has already printed.
- You control your profile. You choose optional profile details, who can send requests, and whether your birthday appears publicly.
- Content is for delivery. Rendered print files are meant to be temporary, while account and delivery records last longer.
This policy applies to the Paprbot website, mobile apps, cloud-connected printers, public profiles and share links, and related support interactions (together, the “Service”). It does not cover a printer's optional local-network mode when that traffic bypasses Paprbot's servers. It also does not cover the separate Shopify store at shop.paprbot.com, which has its own privacy notice for purchases and waitlists.
What we collect
- 01Account and profileYour email address, handle, display name, profile photo, bio, birthday, social links, privacy settings, account status, and sign-in provider. Clerk handles authentication credentials; Paprbot does not receive your password.
- 02Notes and relationshipsThe text, photos, drawings, links, sender name, recipient, timestamps, and delivery status associated with a note, plus friendships, blocks, share links, pen-pal aliases, note-interest signals, and reports you submit.
- 03Printers and devicesPrinter identifiers and public keys, pairing and connection state, printer health and settings, mobile platform, push-notification token, and nearby-printer setup information.
- 04Service activityIP address, browser or device details, request timestamps, error and security logs, and share-link or feature usage needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
Information you choose from your device
If you use the mobile app, you may allow access to your camera or photo library to create notes, Bluetooth to find and pair a nearby printer, and notifications so we can send service alerts. On some Android versions, nearby Bluetooth scanning is grouped with a location permission. Paprbot uses that permission for nearby-printer setup, not to collect your GPS location.
Cookies and local storage
We use session technologies needed to keep you signed in and secure your account. We also store limited preferences, such as your color theme, and local counters used to enforce public share-link limits. Paprbot does not currently use third-party advertising cookies or behavioral tracking.
How we use information
We use information to:
- create and secure accounts; authenticate sign-ins; and maintain profiles, friendships, privacy settings, and blocks;
- render notes, route them to the right printer, show delivery status, and operate public share links and pen-pal features;
- pair and authenticate printers, diagnose connection and printer health, and send requested push notifications;
- enforce rate limits and printer-owner controls; investigate reports; provide support and troubleshooting; and prevent spam, fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- fix errors, understand aggregate service performance, and improve Paprbot; and
- comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Where a law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the Service, your consent for optional permissions, and compliance with legal obligations, as applicable.
Who can see what
Public profile information
Your handle, display name, profile photo, bio, and social links may appear on your public profile. Your birthday appears only if you turn on that setting. Do not put information in your profile that you do not want others to see.
Notes and physical paper
Note content and sender details are disclosed to the printer owner and anyone with access to the physical printer or paper. Recipients control what happens to a note after it prints. If you send through someone's public share link, the link owner receives the content and the name you provide, even if you do not have a Paprbot account.
Pen pals and moderation
Pen-pal participants see an alias rather than each other's account identity until the product's mutual-consent flow reveals it. Paprbot may still associate that alias with an account to deliver messages and address safety reports. Authorized moderators may review reported content and related account or delivery details. Authorized personnel may also access content when reasonably necessary for support, security, or troubleshooting. We limit access to the purpose that requires it and audit privileged review of reported content.
How we disclose information
We disclose information only as needed to the following groups:
- Recipients and other users. To deliver notes, operate public profiles, and provide social features you choose to use.
- Service providers. Clerk provides sign-in and account management; Convex provides database and file storage; hosting and infrastructure providers run the web and rendering services; and Expo, Apple, or Google may route mobile push notifications. These providers process information for us under their own contracts and security commitments.
- Connected sign-in services. If you choose Google, Discord, or Twitch to sign in, that provider and Paprbot exchange the information needed to authenticate you. Their independent use is governed by their privacy terms.
- Safety and legal recipients. We may preserve or disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, enforce agreements, or protect people, Paprbot, printers, and the public.
- A successor organization. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to applicable law.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use note content to target ads. We do not currently use product analytics, advertising trackers, or crash analytics. If that changes, we will update this policy before using a new tool in a materially different way.
How long we keep it
We keep information only for the purposes described here, then delete, anonymize, or isolate it unless law or a legitimate safety need requires longer retention. Typical retention is summarized below.
| Information | Typical retention |
|---|---|
| Account, profile, friendships, settings, and printer ownership | For as long as your account is active. Some non-sensitive delivery metadata may be kept indefinitely as described below. |
| Rendered note files | Normally deleted about 3 hours after a job is printed, fails, or is canceled. An undelivered note may remain queued for up to 7 days. |
| Delivery metadata | May be kept indefinitely. In-app history shows delivery time, direction, status, and approximate note size — not the note text or rendered image. |
| Extracted note text | Up to 30 days for content filtering, abuse reports, security, and troubleshooting, unless it becomes part of a report that must be kept longer. |
| Reports | Normally 30 days after resolution. We may keep a report longer when reasonably required for safety, repeat-abuse prevention, disputes, or legal compliance. |
| Routine technical and security logs | Held as needed for security and troubleshooting, typically no longer than 30 days. Narrow audit records may be kept longer when needed to document privileged moderation or security actions. |
| Pairing codes and unclaimed render records | Short-lived. Pairing codes ordinarily expire after 15 minutes; unused render records ordinarily expire within hours. |
Paper is different. Deleting data from Paprbot cannot erase a printed note or copies saved by its recipient.
Your choices and rights
You can edit most profile information, change public-profile and friend-request settings, manage share links, block people, unpair a printer, and control mobile permissions from the app or your device settings. You can delete your Paprbot account from the Account section of the web or mobile app. These self-service controls are the fastest way to manage your information.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of personal information; to object to or restrict certain uses; to withdraw consent; or to appeal our response. Email hello@paprbot.net if a request cannot be completed in the app. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
Account deletion removes your profile and user-scoped data and releases your printer. Non-sensitive delivery metadata for notes already sent may remain in a recipient's history without the note text, rendered image, or direct account association. Reports may be preserved for the limited period above, and printed copies remain outside Paprbot's control.
Regional disclosures
United States
Paprbot is operated from Iowa and is designed primarily for a United States audience. We do not currently prevent people in other countries from accessing the Service. If you use Paprbot from elsewhere, the transfer information in Section 9 applies.
The categories collected in the preceding 12 months, their sources, business purposes, and recipients are described in Sections 2, 3, and 5. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics, and do not offer financial incentives for personal information. Because we do not conduct those sale or sharing activities, a browser opt-out signal does not change our handling today.
EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
Where these laws apply, Dragn Technologies LLC acts as the controller of the information described here. You may contact your local data-protection authority, although we would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first.
Security and international transfers
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information, including access controls and secured connections. No online service or connected device can be guaranteed completely secure, so please use care when deciding what to send to someone's printer.
Paprbot and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where privacy laws differ from those where you live. Where required, we use contractual or other lawful safeguards for these transfers.
Children
You must be at least 13 to use Paprbot. Paprbot is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided information in violation of this rule, contact us so we can investigate and delete it. A higher minimum age may apply where local law requires it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Paprbot changes. We will post the revised version here and change the effective date above. If a change materially affects your rights or how we use information, we will provide additional notice when required, such as in the app or by email.
